Back Orders

Back Orders

This is a reminder to shop earlier next year. At the end of the first week of December stores and shops had shoppers leaving empty handed as the products they wanted were sold out. This makes it hard on the store owners as well. People get upset and there is nothing we can do except back order. This creates a problem as the makers scramble to provide these products for shipment to there drop-shipper warehouses and dealers for different stores so they can try to get them shipped to customers by Christmas.

Waiting for a Christmas sale may cost you money if you wait for the sale. If you shop on line and want an item for Christmas and you see it is in, but want a discount? Call the shop or store and ask if they will give you a discount. Chances are it may the best thing you could have done.

Delonghi Espresso Maker

The ECO310BK 15-bar DeLonghi espresso maker in piano black has a patented dual-function filter for use with ground espresso or E.S.E pods. This unique filter mixes air into the brewing process to produce a perfect crema. Distinguished by its caramel color, the crema is the essence of authentic espresso. This great espresso machine offers a cappuccino system frother that mixes steam and milk to create a rich creamy froth. It’s perfect for making cappuccino, latte or any other frothy milk coffee beverage. The 48 ounce (1.4 Liter) removable water tank can be filled right at the sink; plus cleaning the tank could not be easier. The large removable drip tray also lends itself to easy, hassle-free clean up. Many other features set this espresso machine above the rest: its self priming operation, stainless steel boiler is made of durable, high quality stainless steel. This machine has two separate thermostats so water and steam pressure are controlled separately. All this and yet it is all done by simple push-button controls. And… the cup storage tray is perfect for warm, ready to use cups.

This ECO310BK espresso maker weighs 15 pounds and come with a one year limited warranty on parts and labor. Its shipping size is a little of 10 inches high by 9 inches wide by 11.8 inches deep. An added note here, my supplier has lost his license to sell Delonghi coffee makers. These espresso machines will be gone after the present supply is gone.

Pasquini Livia 90 Semi

What Happened to Coffee in America?

In 1997, Rancilio introduces the Rancilio Silvia. This espresso machine raised the bar in the home espresso machine market and starts a trend towards better, more professional machines for the consumer. Today the Rancilio Silvia continues to set the bar and can be used for casual commercial use.

In the same year, the Pasquini Livia 90 (made by Bezzera) was marketed. It is the second of a new wave of professional quality espresso machines for the household consumer. However, this espresso machine has a heat exchanger-equipped for consumers instead of for commercial businesses.

During the 1990s, consumers began demanding attractive appliances to complement expensive modern kitchens. This resulted in new designs and redesigned coffeemakers in a wider range of available colors and styles. Some even brought back the siphon coffee maker in the late 1990s. Next Monday a short update and recap.

What Happened to Coffee in America?

In 1990, the Rancilio Rocky Burr Grinder is introduced. It is the first “household” grinder to blur the line between commercial and home grinding appliances. The quality of the grinder is outstanding and it grinds beans at 55 grinding settings to convert coffee beans to anything from uniform coarse grinds to fine powder.

Around 1991, Saeco brings out the world’s first super automatic espresso machines designed specifically for home and small office use in Italy and America. The Incanto Deluxe includes three programmable brew settings and ceramic disc grinders. In addition, you can customize your espresso brew and the Rapid Steam® technology; it allows you to easily froth milk to quickly turn your espresso into a cappuccino or latte.

Three year later, Solis presents the SL-90 consumer espresso machine, a truly successful automatic espresso machine for the home. It gives the benefit of simple digital controls, the most powerful water pump in its class at 19 BAR, large 3.2 quart water reservoir and a thick walled brass boiler so that you can make your favorite coffee house drinks like cappuccino, lattes, cafe mochas and more.

Next, more of what happens to coffee and espresso machines in 1997 and beyond.

Old Turkish Cezve

17th century Turkish Ibrik

What Happened to Coffee in America?

During the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 dealers began to hoard scarce supplies of coffee and raise prices. During both of these times supplies of tea and coffee, which were shipped from England, were temporarily cut off. Coffee continued to be brewed the same way until over 50 years later.

In 1822, a newer type of coffee, espresso was established in France. This is where the very first coffee espresso machines were invented not too much later. Tomorrow, we’ll look at inventions long after the original coffee brewer. It was the Turkish Ibrik, a copper container with a long handle and a grooved tongue that is still used in the Middle East. It produces a very strong brew since this coffeemaker does not filter out the grounds.

The Right Coffee Maker for your Cup of Coffee

If you are one of the people who want a higher quality of coffee in your cup, then you will want to look at an espresso machine. When it comes to getting an espresso machine you need to know your budget as some espresso machines run in the thousands of dollars. However, there are good quality espresso machines for under $500. Some have different brew strengths and adjustable amounts of coffee to fit your exact needs. Others offer programmable settings, which is great for those who find there exact settings and don’t have to readjust to find them again. Some models offer pre-programmed buttons for the right extraction for a single or a double shot.

In addition, there are machines that come with a commercial sized portafilter while others come with a pressurized portafilter that takes a lot of the guess-work out of making a perfect espresso every time. Also, some espresso machines come with pod adaptors while have only a port filter.

Silvia

Rancilio Silvia

The Rancilio Silvia changes in 2007 continued into 2009 with new features. These included a new drip tray, a new OPV (adjustable pressure control) valve, an upgraded boiler and even a new pod adapter kit. So what were the consumer reports on these changes to the Silvia. The Rancilio manual is a good one and comes with the espresso machine. The updated portafilter is a full blown commercial one today. The service and offerings are always great. The following are customer reviews between 2005 and the first part of 2009. Where are the worst ones?

“I have owned several different espresso machines in different price ranges. I doubt there is a better machine out there!”

“Providing a neutral recommendation as there is nothing to say bad against the machine per se, except that it takes a lot of practice to do it right”

“After lots of online research, I settled on the Sylvia. I was a little scared of all the reviews on coffee-geek websites which warned that you have to be a jedi master to operate it: fine-tuning the perfect grind, applying just the right amount of tamping pressure, etc. But I’ve been living with it for a week now, and I’m perfectly happy with it.”

“Miss Silvia Rocks! If you want a consistently great espresso – this is the best. The Rancilio Silvia is a fantastic espresso machine and with a little practice and some high quality beans – you can make better espresso drinks at home than in any espresso shop in your town.”

This last review says it best. The consumer gave it a one star. See what he said next. “We tried to use our Rancilio Espresso Machine this morning and it would not heat. I am reserving judgement as to whether I will be able to get this thing repaired under some kind of warranty.

Update: I talked to someone at the company and he told me about taking off the lid and pushing the red thermal reset button. that was the problem. I have not had any problems since. This has been very reliable since then. If I knew how to change the stars, I would change it back to 5 stars…”

What were the Rancilio Silvia changes in 2009? See what some of them are tomorrow.
